Chapter strategic planning – what’s the plan for 2021?

2021 is off and running, and the Board wants to share the results of your input and the subsequent Board strategic planning session. In November 2020, we were grateful that many of you shared your ideas and input into our planning process – either at the November 9 lunchtime virtual chapter meeting or from the survey we sent shortly after that.

In early December, the Board held our annual planning session. This is a requirement of all PMI chapters and, of course, necessary to clarify the goals and activities for our chapter.   If you attended the February 1 chapter meeting, you saw Chapter President Karen Scott’s presentation at the beginning of the meeting with a report on 2020 and a look forward to 2021. If you missed that, you can find it on our PMITLH website at https://pmitlh.org/index.php/archives/presentations/2021-presentations .

PMI provides a template for reporting our annual plan to PMI global headquarters. Called the Annual Plan and Catalog of Core Services, it identifies activities that are required, recommended, and optional for all chapters. This is where the Board added details of our planned deliverables for the year, with your input.

For our 2021 plan, the board identified two key objectives:

1.  Provide increased value to members.

2.  Increase membership engagement.

The spreadsheet with the details is posted on our website at https://pmitlh.org/index.php/about-us/235-chapter-policies-procedures . You’ll see that we plan to conduct at least one chapter activity each month; and provide additional types of professional development, networking and mentoring opportunities. We plan to provide Disciplined Agile training, a PMP exam prep class, and a professional development day this year, along with other virtual professional development opportunities. Volunteers have been working diligently to build our active communication channels and update our website and will continue these efforts in 2021.

Your feedback and input are key in helping the board know how to best provide value to our members and increase opportunities for you to engage with chapter activities in ways that work for you. Soon you should receive a survey asking for your choices on which community service project we will plan this year and where you might fit within this or other chapter activities.  We are excited about new opportunities this year and making continual improvements – with your input!
